This week I had the opportunity to follow up on my discussion last week with the Home Secretary the Rt Hon James Cleverly MP regarding the issue of the funding formula for police in Cambridgeshire.
On Tuesday I sat down with the Policing Minister Chris Philp MP to discuss the need for a review to the funding formula. Whilst Cambridgeshire now has record numbers of police officers, up 18% on 2010, its status as one of the fastest growing regions in the country means we will need increasing numbers of police officers in order to keep safe our growing urban population as well as maintaining a presence and ensuring our rural communities are also kept safe.
I will continue to push for a review of the funding formula and a fairer allocation of funding to support our police going forward.
