Following on from my recent letter to Cambridgeshire County Council regarding the proposed implementation of a “Quiet Way” on the Grafham Road between Grafham and Brampton, today I met with Matt Barber, Sustrans’ Head of Partnerships (Midlands and East).
A very productive meeting and vital in understanding how Sustrans have revised how they intend to carry out consultation with both communities before any proposal is agreed upon after the initial communication over the project was poorly received.
Sustrans will hold discussions with County, District and Parish councillors, will be sending out letters to local residents in both Grafham and Brampton as well as holding two drop-in sessions with local residents; one in each village.
No decision on a course of action will be taken without community support and so the Grafham Road will not be closed to motor vehicles unless that is what local residents desire.
They will explore a number of measures in order to ensure the road is improved to accommodate walkers, cyclists and horses, via a number of options potentially including a speed reduction.
My thanks to Matt for his time today, and also to Sustrans more broadly for taking a step back and re-engaging with the local community in a more collegiate manner.
I would encourage all local residents to participate in the dialogue in order to ensure a solution is implemented that works for as many people as possible.
