This weekend I was able to spend time speaking to local residents in Wistow in order to better understand the impact that Storm Babet has had on flooding in the village and the flood defence plan in place.
With each of the affected properties employing different methods to keep the water at bay, from hydrosacks and flood barriers to waterproof walls, tanking and flood barriers, its important to understand that there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. The impact and enforcement of riparian rules coupled with the lack of dredging and bank management over two decades has led to residents having to do their best to mitigate the scale of the impact to homes in the village, an issue i've also seen in Alconbury and Broughton. I'll continue to work to understand the scale of the problem and how we can implement a holistic solution.
