This week I had the opportunity to meet with the Secretary of State for Health, The Rt Hon. Victoria Atkins MP in Westminster. This was an important chance to discuss local health issues impacting Huntingdon and to relay the output of meetings from the previous week with the CEO of North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust Hannah Coffey and CEO of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated Care Board Jan Thomas.
Alongside conversations about GP access and NHS dentistry it was important to highlight the Government's commitment to its New Hospital Programme within which Hinchingbrooke Hospital is set to be rebuilt following the investigation into RAAC levels. Whilst the work is proposed we must ensure that commitment to deliver the funding is maintained. The new theatre block at Hinchingbrooke is scheduled to open in June 2024 and going forward should become part of the wider rebuild set to take place over the next few years.
