Last week as Storm Babet saw significant rainfall across the country and several areas impacted by catastrophic flooding I visited Alconbury Brook Flood Group to meet with the Chair, Charles Dalleywater to discuss the important work the group does in managing water flow and reducing flood risk as well as securing funding for future projects.
The brook itself had swollen significantly over the course of the day rising by six feet by the time I visited that afternoon, before rising further and rendering much of the village impassable, writing off several vehicles in the process. Though not as damaging as previous floods, witnessing the speed of the flooding first-hand illustrated how crucial the work is. I’ll continue to support the group in its work to ensure that the flood risk is mitigated going forward.
