This week I had the opportunity to meet with with Andrew Ford and Air Marshal (Retd.) Cliff Spink from Bythorn and Keyston Parish Council to discuss the dangerous junction of the A14 and Toll Bar Lane.
With no slip road on or off the dual carriageway, no signage and no traffic lights the junction is far more dangerous than it should be with the challenges of drivers having to slow significantly on thwe A14 in order to make the left turn onto Toll Bar Lane, drivers having to accelerate onto the A14 from a stationary T-Junction or the danger of crossing the traffic to reach the southbound carriageway. Whilst there I saw cyclists attempt to make the crossing as well as having to cross the junction by car myself in order to leave after the meeting. Having experienced this first hand it’s clear that steps need to be taken in order to prevent any further fatalities along this hazardous stretch.
