A very worthwhile visit to HMP Littlehey to meet with the Governor, Matthew Tilt.
As one of comparatively few MPs to have a prison in their constituency, it’s hugely important to understand how the prison operates and the challenges it faces.
HMP Littlehey is a large Category C prison housing 1,250 male prisoners, and as a newer prison has fewer issues compared to much of the prison estate nationally. With media coverage this week around the issues regarding the use of drones to smuggle contraband into prisons it was reassuring to hear that this hasn’t been an issue and that there is a plan in place to counter the threat.
As an employer of 500 people locally the prison is an important location and I will continue to support it, flagging any issues with the Ministry of Justice should they arise.
