This week I visited Sawtry Foodbank, run by Caresco up at Sawtry Community Centre.
It was really useful to see the foodbank first hand and understand the challenges faced by the foodbank itself and the customers. Having worked at a Trussell Trust foodbank before it’s important to understand how these challenges differ depending on the demographics of those who use it.
The foodbank welcomes donations and is currently running low on tinned tuna, tinned tomatoes, porridge oats, cereal, toilet rolls and toiletries (shower gel and hand soap). There’s no need for baked beans though!
The foodbank provides a hugely valuable resource and I would encourage anybody in need to get a referral, particularly at this time of year when hardship can be difficult to manage.
