Following on from visiting Brampton yesterday to speak to those affected by the current flooding, this morning I spoke to residents in Whitecross, St. Ives.
Once again the flooding here is caused by the high river levels meaning water is pushed back through the system and up through drain covers in combination with heavy rainfall having nowhere to go.
Several of the houses had had water ingress into garages with further access issues meaning food deliveries and bin collections have not been possible. Residents with accessibility challenges have effectively been cut off.
Speaking to many local residents the feeling was one of frustration at a lack of communication and action from the County Council, particularly given that the same flooding in Whitecross occurred earlier in the year, yet there has been nothing visible in the way of investigation or mitigation put in place. Each person I spoke to informed me that I was the first person they had had the opportunity to speak to.
I will continue to liaise with the County Council regarding the identification of a solution to prevent the road from flooding, and to take steps to mitigate further flooding in the coming months.
