A really informative afternoon spent at Anglian Water’s Somersham Water Recycling Centre. Fair to say I know a lot more about sewage than I did beforehand.
Crucial to understand the process of how raw sewage is turned into clean enough water to return to our watercourses, how the by-product of you-know-what is turned into “cake” and used to fertilise field for root vegetable production and also how storm overflow ends up flowing into our rivers rather than backing up the sewer network and flooding our homes.
That said, I’m not sure the hottest day of the year so far was the optimal time to learn about sewage.
My thanks to Anglian Water for taking the time to show me the process.
