Out this morning in Great Staughton and Hail Weston delivering our leaflets for my campaign to STOP EAST PARK ENERGY.
We were out today with local Councillors Ian Gardener and Stephen Cawley as well as our candidate for the Combined Authority mayoralty, Paul Bristow, covering both villages to make sure everyone has a poster.
The proposed Solar Farm stretching from Great Staughton and across into Bedfordshire is 1,900 acres in total, 6 miles across and bigger than Gatwick Airport. The majority will be built in Grade 2 and 3a farmland, ‘Best and Most Versatile’ land.
I’ve already challenged the Energy Minister in Parliament on these plans but the Government has already said it will seek to approve them as the project has been categorised as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project. I’ve also spoken to Brockwell who are behind the scheme and written to them during the consultation highlighting my concerns on behalf of residents. The official opportunity to object to the scheme will come later this year.
I would ask any residents opposed to the plans to place this poster in their window to let the developers know the strength of opposition to the scale of the solar farm.
