This week I met with Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue’s new Chief Fire Officer Matthew Warren to discuss some of the immediate challenges the service is facing.
We discussed the future of Kimbolton Community Fire Station and the progress being made regarding the recruitment of more on-call firefighters. I made clear my commitment to fighting to ensure it remains open and it is currently better placed than other on-call stations in the county earmarked for closure.
We also discussed St. Ives Fire Station, which is also suffering from personnel shortages and is likely to move to a new site on the edge of St. Ives.
In addition there is the ongoing issue of the control room which is currently operated in conjunction with Suffolk Fire & Rescue. With Suffolk set to move to their own control room at the end of this year (at vast expense to residents in Suffolk) this does present further funding challenges locally.
