Ben Obese-Jecty has been selected as the Conservative Party candidate for Huntingdon at the next General Election.
He was selected by Conservative members in the constituency on Friday evening in a hard fought contest.
He will be campaigning to take over from current MP Jonathan Djanogly who has announced he is stepping down at the next election.
Speaking after the selection, Ben said: “It’s a huge honour to have been selected as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Huntingdon. My thanks to the Association for putting their faith in me.
As a former Army Officer I have a deeply held and passionate desire to uphold our values. My background taught me that personal responsibility, hard work and application should be the cornerstones of success and I was raised in a family that firmly believed in equality of opportunity, ensuring that even the most disadvantaged have the platform to achieve their goals and that anybody, from any background, should have the opportunity to succeed.”
“I would apply these values to all of my work as your new Member of Parliament. I am very much looking forward to getting my campaign underway.”
Cllr Ian Gardener, Chairman of the HCCA, added: “I am thrilled to announce Ben as our candidate for the upcoming General Election. He brings a great deal of campaigning experience to the newly reorganised constituency, and clearly struck a chord with members as a committed, active, and knowledgeable candidate. I’m looking forward to working with him in the area, and I know Huntingdon, St.Ives and the villages will get behind Ben and I look forward to seeing him elected as their MP.”
Cllr Jonathan Gray, Conservative Group Leader at Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) added:
"In these times of political uncertainty, it's crucial that we have strong and committed representatives who prioritize the well-being of our constituents. Ben’s decision to stand for the newly revised Huntingdon seat is a testament to his commitment to our community. In the face of the dangers, we've witnessed under HDC’s new Labour, Lib Dem, and Green Joint Administration, we need leaders who will stand against policies that burden hardworking families. Ben’s campaigning experience and commitment to Conservative values make him the right choice to ensure our voices are heard in the next Parliament. I look forward to working alongside him to safeguard the interests of our constituents."
